so it begins...

This week was our family's first adventure into the world of sports (beyond the TV.) A few weeks ago we went for the "evaluation" and came home with a schedule that was placed on the fridge. Every activity mentioned since was monitored by if it came before or after the first practice, before or after the first game... Finally this week arrived and that brought the first week of practice, two excited girls and one little girl insisting that she was big enough to play soccer.
(Mackenzie got to pick out a flashy green ball while the girls picked their shin guards.)
It ended up that the girls' practices fall on different days. Tuesday morning at 7:30 Sophie was dressed in her practice outfit with tennis shoes tossed over her shoulder ready to go. It was a long day waiting for 6:30 to roll around, but we finally made it. At practice Sophie took everything very literal. The coach said don't crowd around the ball, so if there was a group not even crowding she was nowhere near-- which meant she was no where near the ball either.
The next two mornings Haleigh opened her eyes with the countdown till her turn. Thursday morning she rolled out of bed and put her outfit together in the perfect holding spot while the clock ticked slowly to 5:30.
It was amazing to us that our girl who never slows down was somewhat sluggish on the field. It will be interesting to see over the next few weeks which grows more the girls' coaches' patience or the girls' hustle. Hopefully all the talk of hustle in our house this week will payoff :) Next Saturday begins the six week stretch of games at 8:30 and 10:00 we'll see how it goes. I'll be sure to post some pics once we get the first round of games under our belt.

  1. Sophie's coach isn't used to being addressed as, "Excuse me, sir?" : )
