those things you should write down...

After an AM2PM meeting, we had all made some new friends. Two new little friends wanted to show Sophie and Haleigh their new baby brother. Of coarse, as they were looking at the baby they had to see his toes. That led to this comment by none other than my Sophie,

"His toe is no bigger than a pinto bean!"

(Do I need to add that we did a science experiment lately with pinto beans?!)

Our Sophie's latest love is reading American Girl books. Once she realized that there were dolls to go along with these grand adventures she began banking all her money and looking for ways to fatten her piggy bank (or sheep bank in her case.) That being said, when bed time arrives for Mackenzie and I can't find "Lovie" (her blanket/stuffed animal that is a must before we start the bedtime routine) I get a great response when I yell, "Who ever finds Lovie gets a quarter!" The other night I was really needing it and I upped the reward to $1. Lovie arrived quickly, a dollar headed to a piggy bank and bedtime was a success.
The following day Sophie announced that she only needed one more dollar to reach her goal to order her first (6 in) American Girl doll. Then a twinkle appeared in her eye as she said, "I bet you'll need help finding Lovie tonight." I told her I remembered putting Lovie on my bed, maybe I would need her help the next night. She snickered and said, "I think you'll need me tonight." You know where this is going...
Sophie began to get nervous that she had let the cat out of the bag a little too far. I asked if she hid Lovie. She asked if she would be in trouble if she did. Then followed up the question with I'll still get a dollar when you need it right?! Let's just say Lovie was hiding in her underwear drawer ("because I knew you would never look there!") And Sophie had to wait until she had completed all her chores for the next day before her goal was met.
Kaya arrived yesterday in the mail :)

Have a fun weekend!

Southern Saturday

We had a such a sweet day! We started our day at Chicken Noodles for a yummy breakfast, and headed to the Children's Garden downtown.

Then we spent some time playing in the fountains - Mackenzie spent time having Daddy's full attention not in the water.

Next, we headed to the Farmers Market set up downtown. The girls danced to some fiddlers, we gathered some fresh produce and beautiful flowers. A great day was had by all!!!

"First Day of School"

For the record we did start school here at home on August 3. The first few days the girls expressed their thanks to me for teaching them. Sophie said she felt great doing school again. Ha
leigh thanked me for teaching her how to hold her pencil so she could learn to write.

BUT TODAY...
we started our co-op school. Sophie has been VERY excited to get back. (We took last year off to make life a little easier with two very young ones.) Haleigh was just excited because we had been talking about it for so long. Today was a total success. The girls had a blast and did really well with the huge load of information, sitting rather still, and presenting a little something special from
their summer. Sophie presented her terrarium she made in the cub club at Great Wolf Lodge. Haleigh presented her picture of holding the lion cub at the zoo. Haleigh is stepping right in line with her sister as far as presenting goes. We acutally had to cut her off she was going so long. Then once her classmates clapped she started to go back up to speak some more - what a trip!!
Mackenzie wasn't left out of the mix. When we bought her lunchbox late last week she struggled to get it on her back, so we turned around and got her a backpack too. Oh my did she age 3 years as soon as she put it on this morning. She insisted on walking side by side with her sisters as we walked into the church for their First Day!!

(Afterwards we met Daddy at the children's museum for lots of fun!)

"Out of the Mouth of Babes"

When I told my Dad this story his response was a small chuckle and the title to the blog, "Out of the Mouth of Babes." (I can also picture the exact expression that I am sure was on his face when he said it :) ...

Last night I was tucking Sophie into bed she prayed that Mackenzie would sleep well and that Jesus would heal her belly. I told her we know Jesus can heal her belly, we just aren't sure if this is the time He is going to do it. I told her, "You know, behind every no is a greater yes..." I was planning on explaining what I meant when she said, "I know Mom. Like the little girl that prayed for blue eye. God said, 'no.' Then she became a missionary and painted her face with coffee to look like the people she was going to be with. If she had those blue eyes she prayed for she wouldn't have looked like the people and they would have know she was different. Maybe Mackenzie will become a missionary." Then my precious 7 (going on 97) continued, "Mom, you know Jesus is teaching us something with all this. When we learn what we are supposed to He will heal Mackenzie... Mom when do we stop learning?" I'm not even sure where our conversation went from there, but after my sermon I was somewhat renewed and happy that Jesus so alive and real in my Sophie!

Creek Walk Birthday Party

We arrived home from church to see the little light blinking on the answering machine. A sweet voice of one of my friends was requesting Sophie attend a birthday party for her daughter. Quick reactions blurted out as I realized little ears were tuned in. Haleigh immediately cried that she didn't want "her Sophie" to be away from her and that she wanted to go to a party too. I went through the whole "we can't do everything together all the time..." Did I mention that the message was cut off right after, "we would love to have Sophie come to a party tomorrow." So throughout the day I tried to reach the voice that trailed off on the machine. Around 7:30 the call came with the info. The party was to be a creek walk party and all the girls were welcome to come!! SMILES ALL AROUND!

We woke up and hustled through school, with sweet little solar systems created, so we could be completely ready to leave in time to grab a gift on the way. As usual we set out 20 minutes later than intended, grabbed a Build A Bear gift card and we were off for the creek walk party. Did I mention it was 100*? We met the party crew and drove to the spot to unload (Sophie actually rode in the back of a pickup - have I lost my brain!!) I packed Mackenzie into her hiking pack and we trounced across a field. Each child adorned with the party favor bug kit was pumped to get to the creek. We welcomed the shade and the cool water on our feet. Haleigh had a frog in her "bug jar" before she was even in the water. We hiked up the creek, all was going fine until my flip flop snapped! The rest of the hike I went barefoot while balancing my youngest on my back. All the bug jar were filled with guests and it was time to head to the pool.

Lasagna, bread and watermelon were served and the kids jumped back into the pool for some party games. The next thing I know about 30 little squirt animals were thrown into the pool and a mad scramble broke out. In the midst of the scramble Sophie realized she has gone into the deep end and completely forgot that she could swim. I saw her eyes get wider by the second. Mamma instinct kicked in, I tossed Mackenzie to another mamma and in I went clothes and all.
I asked Sophie if she forgot that she could swim and she said, "I guess I did."
The worm cake was served and we headed home.
One of the frogs was released only briefly while in the car then the survivors were set free in their new home in the back yard.
Summer days!! Tired Mamma!!!

A Sweet Day!!

I still plan on continuing the "stay-cation" post, just not yet;) below is a post copied from Mackenzie's Caring Bridge site. At the end are a few additional comments.
Oh what a sweet day! I pray that I will have the precious memories of Sunday etched in my mind forever. After the second church service we met with some of the elders and pastors of our church to have Mackenzie anointed with oil and prayed over. As we began I was not at all sure how it would all play out as Mackenzie wasn't exactly being still. As we gathered we were sharing Mackenzie's story in the shortest version we could pack it in. All the while, Mackenzie was showing the gentlemen she was not lacking energy as she ran around offering her new found love - raisins to anyone willing to accept them. Then Mark and I were seated with Mackenzie on Mark's lap. The elder who was leading us put the oil on Mackenzie's head. Not sure if she liked it, she paused giving us a funny look, and then she held her leg out with her toes as pointed as they could be as if to ask for some to be placed on the tip of her toes. Loving hands were placed on our shoulders and the sweetest prayers for Mackenzie's healing, along with wisdom, guidance and strength for Mark and me. But above all, that God would be glorified through this part of HIS story.
As we finished up we were thanking the gentlemen who had given their time and sought out the Lord's leading even before we met. In response they actually thanked us for asking them to pray for Mackenzie and inviting them to be part of this journey. The love in that room was amazing! The Holy Spirit was definitely there and we certainly are excited for all He is going to do!!

When we got home my dear friend Terri called to see how the morning had gone. She listened intently as if just hearing it brought her into the experience. Then she shared a beautiful thing with me. At her church in Richmond, VA she had asked for prayer for Mackenzie at a prayer breakfast they were having during the Sunday School hour. As she entered their church service she was asked for some more details to her request. Around 11:20, when she knew we were meeting with the elders, her church paused their worship service to take time to pray for our girl! I tear up just thinking about it!! We continue to be blown away by the prayers and love from so many!!!

As of today Mackenzie has had some raisins with her regular meals for 3 days and so far so good!! She is excited with the new addition to her plate and tomorrow we will add some avocado. We'll keep you posted as the week continues!
We love you all!!

*** additional comments--As we were getting ready to sit down, they were scooting chairs together for Mark and me to sit in. I was trying to figure out the best way to contain Mackenzie and decided it was to have Mark hold her and that she would by all means need her passie. I was thinking this very loudly hoping Mark would pick up on my thoughts. Before I knew what I was doing... I tried to put her passie in Mark's mouth :0 Let's just say it brought a few laughs!

Also, Pastor Hanford (Mrs. Libby, that you hear me speak of so much, her husband is one of the elders and former pastor of Southside) said he and Mrs. Libby had been praying for Mackenzie for a long time and in preperation for this time together he felt led to pray for healing. That absolutely nothing would bring as much glory to God then her being completely healed!!!
